I have a Ubuntu 12.04 system. To that system I have one USB 3.0 port. In this port I am trying use my USB 2.0 device. But every time when I plugged that USB 2.0 device into that USB 3.0 port, system gets hanged though I tired to shutdown but it won't allow me.

But same type of device I used for USB 2.0 it works fine.

So I have a question as " How can allow USB 3.0 port to use USB 2.0 device or did is there any way for converting USB 3.0 port to USB 2.0 port like drivers or something".

Suggestions can also appreciating. Thanks in advance.

I have the same symptoms on a Surface Pro 3. I have tried uninstalling USB drivers several times via several methods to enter this control panel function. The behaviour remains consistent, all devices - all USB 3 work fine, all USB 2 do not work.

This is almost certainly a driver issue. A Toshiba Dynadock USB-3 to computer and USB-3 and USB-2 ports to the external world. Everything works fine Dynadock connected with USB-3 external drive connected via Dynadock. Then connect any USB-2 device to the Dynadock and the connection fails.

Simiarly USB-2 devices do not work direct connect and USB-3 devices do work direct connect and Dynadock works fine with other machines.

I have updated from Windows 8 to Windows 10 during the period of this problem - with no change.

HELP *PLEASE*.

Hi All, Sorry but this is not a solution to your posts. I've sent it to add more weight to this thread, to highlight the existence of an issue, and to prevent the best answer yet being, "You can safely ignore the USB2 to USB3 notification and continue to use the device"... Maybe you should be able to, but in reality you actually can't! Just saying a fault can be disregarded doesn't really constitute resolution of the fault. You can't.disregard the notice and then go on to use the device, simply because you can't. Even accessing the device via different routes gets you nowhere. You get this same issue on Toshiba "Satellite" Laptops, running Windows 10, with USB3 ports. I've just got an image capture device, the Philips SPC900NC (USB2 audio/visual device). Plugged in to Toshiba L/T, which (unbidden), dutifully downloaded relevant software. All good until I try to use the camera. The USB2/USB3 notification comes up. This is an absolute dead-end message, it gives you nowhere else to go. Alternative routes give same problem. For example, asking the PC to list the connected devices, you can see the device is listed, as a "Generic USB device". If you try to access the camera via this default or generic USB route, you just get the same (dead-end) message, with no further options to use the device..Minor success as just discovered a way for me to see the cameras images, but it isn't recording the stack of stills (want to put them through Registax to enhance faint objects like planets, etc. I now know that the image can be seen (via the VLC media player), so something of the USB2 device output stream is getting through the USB3 port. However, the Windows or Toshiba software doesn't know it, and just keeps on giving the Error message and dead-ending the user..
I will be actively seeking a solution to this issue, so if I find one before I'm too old to remember why I was looking for this software fix, I will post it here. Please do likewise if you find a workaround. Thanks all, from Eddie (a.k.a. Ed_Red - Well, it probably should be....)
