USB 2.0 on Antec Plus1080 AMG?

Hi all,

I'm using an Asus P4P800 Deluxe with an Antec Plus 1080 AMG. I am having difficulty getting the front USB ports to operate at 2.0 speeds. Antec has sent me a replacement port and assures me that it in fact is 2.0 compatible, but I can only get a 2.0 device to run at 1.1 speeds (Lacie external 24x CD-RW will only run at 4x)

The P4P800 supports USB2.0 devices so I'm wonering where the problem lies. Does anyone know if the actual wires running between the mobo and front ports have to be 2.0 compatible? I'm starting to run out of possible solutions and Antec is sending me yet another replacement port.

Thanks,

First of all try the one at the back of your computer so youll know if its the front pannel or if its the USB controller.
Make sure you use the latest Bios 1008 i think. Just and idea, try to update your USB drivers maybe thats the problem. On my old P4B533 i rember i had to upgrade them to work properly in 2.0. Good luck

Interesting note. I have the Antec Sonata case. My rear usb 2.0 ports (Intel Mobo) run at USB 2.0 speeds but the front ports are a lot slower. I'm very suspicious of the wires that lead from the front ports to the mobo. I haven't tried to contact Antec yet.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I've started looking into the wiring that leads from the case to the mobo and have found one or two posts in this forum (http://www.usbman.com/forum/index.html) which suggest that in fact the wiring does need to be 2.0 compatible. I have been guided to this product as a possible solution (http://www.usbwholesale.com/motherboard cable.htm) but I'm waiting for some clearer answers before I buy anything.

I'll follow up with whatever I find to this posting.

Cheers,

ABS Computers sells their "Awesome PC" series using that case. They have posted a "warning" on their configuration page - "Antec Case Front USB Port Only 1.1" - see this <A HREF="http://www.abspc.com/app/config.asp?cartno=11034514&mono=1601&view=2" target="_new">link</A>
Sounds like an Antec design problem.

But Officer, I wasn't speeding - I was qualifying ...

Thanks for replying. So it's starting to look more and more like it's an Antec thing. This really bothers me since I've spoken with thier "technician" and he's been mostly unhelpful save for sending me replacement ports. At one point I even suggested that perhaps the wiring was to blame but it was just ignored. Maybe I'll try getting them to send me wiring instead of replacement ports.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
