Are the true USB 2.0 webcams (Creative Ultras) significantly better than
the USB 1.0 variety? Has
anybody actually made comparisons as opposed
to the advertising claims?

I should have mentioned that my use is strictly video conferencing.

Probably no better. The only difference is that 'Hi-Speed' USB 2 devices
will tansfer data to the PC at 480Mb/s. This will make no difference to
how fast your computer sends the image to the web or wherever it is
going to, it is simply the speed that the device sends it to the
computer. Whether a camera is USB1 or USB2 has no bearing on the image
quality. The image quality is due the image sensor (Those camera have a
CCD sensor which will provide a better image than a CMOS one), the
camera lens, and the electronics in the camera, but it has nothing to do
with USB2.
As Creative themselves say on their web page, the cameras are also
compatible with USB1. Simply put, that means that they will drop back to
USB1 speed when plugged into a USB1 port (around 12Mb/s)

I have a creative cam sitting on top of my pc and when first connected to a
usb 1 connector on the back of my pc gave horrible pictures like a low light
high contrast look. After adding a usb2 card and connecting it to the camera
it gives a sweet picture, and my printer is faster to boot!

Hope this helps,
Peter
