Usb 2.0 to usb 3.0

I build a pc a few days ago and i was wonder if i were to use a USB 2.0 9Pin 9P Housing male TO Motherboard USB 3.0 20pin Female cable adaptor would it still run as 3.0?

And another thing. the front panel has a usb 2.0 connector but i cannot find the spot of the motherboard and just wondering if there is an adapter for it or if i'm just missing it

3.0 is backwards compatible with 2.0, but a 2.0 device will NOT upgrade to 3.0 speeds. The 3.0 ports will speed down to 2.0 speeds instead.

So instead of a 2.0 operating at 4.8GBps, the 3.0 port will operate at 480MBps.

the 9 pins of usb 2 cannot support usb 3 because of it having less pins - some of those its missing are for the increased data transfer.

I ended up adding a usb 3.0 card to my 3.0 usb mobo to get my front panel 3.0 working, this chepo card gives real world write speed of 65mbs to my blazing fast SanDisk Extreme 16gb drive..
