Hi,
I make regular use of external USB-2 hard drives for data back up purposes.
I have noticed that the 'discovery' time that Windows takes to 'show' a unit
from the time it has been plugged in varies from device to device, computer
to computer, and from one time to another as well.
Since Windows XP Pro uses its built-in driver (USBSTOR.SYS) to connect to
such plug and play devices, I have been unable to get a fix on what the
differences in this discovery time could be attributed to. This does not
affect functionality in the slightest but sometimes it is a bit weird to sit
and wait 90 seconds before a unit shows up on the host computer.
I use several different (but cheap!!) enclosures and I could not correlate
the time differences to brands. I have SP2 installed.
Any pointers would be welcome. Thanks very much in anticipation.
