So recently I purchased a usb 3.0 64gb flash drive and for some reason, transfer speeds are near the speeds of a 2.0. The 2.0 on my computer transfers at 5-7 mb/second and the 3.0 transfer at 10-14 mb/second. There is a improvement, but not enough to call it a 3.0. The advertised speed on the website is 140 READ and 70 WRITE.

I'm 100% sure that the electron driver is installed and that my usb 3.0 flash drive is in a blue usb port. My motherboard is a Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 REV 1.0

Yes, Most things can only run as fast as the slowest part of the chain.
As a test and if you have enough ram, would be to create a small ramdisk and use that as the source/destination for testing with the flashdrive.

Many small files will always transfer slower than 1 large file.
Those PNY drives aren't very fast. I have one myself (138GB) and have noticed similar results, though I do get a bit faster than that.

Try updating the Bios. The notes for the most recent update is said to 'improve USB 3.0 compatibility' so there is a very good chance it will help out your speeds.

Hi there Frankie_Xenon,

You know that your USB 3.0 are on the back of the casing right? If not, you can try connecting the USB flash drive to those ports and see whether there is some difference.
Also, it may be a good idea to try the drive on another system. If you get 10 mb/s, then most probably there is something wrong with the drive. If you get better speeds, then you can try reinstalling your USB controllers.

Hope this will help,

I tried it on a mac book pro and it transferred 200 MB in matter of seconds. So what would you think is holding the speed back? My hard drive or something related with my drivers? I have a seagates 2tb 7200RPM hard drive

I updated to F8 and its still the same transfer speed 😛

I have even tried reinstalling my etron USB 3.0 drivers

EDIT: So for some reason transferring folders with tiny files inside cuts the transfer speed in half. So if I were to transfer one big file such as a exe, the transfer speed would bump up to around 50 MB/S

So a faster hard drive = a faster transfer rate on my flash drive?

Does all 7200 RPM sata 6.0 hard drive run at the same speed? If so would buying a WD black 2tb hard drive make any speed difference? I have a Seagates 2tb 7200 RPM sata 6.0 hard drive at the moment
