Hey guys,

So I have the GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 motherboard with the B9 BIOS and the Cooler Master Storm Enforcer tower. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. My motherboard has the Etron EJ168 controller for USB 3. I have 4 USB ports. Two in the back and two in the front from my tower. I have whatever the latest drivers for USB 3.0 from the Gigabyte drivers page is.

I bought a Toshiba Canvio HDD yesterday (their newest model) and I have some trouble with it. So basically it seems to work fine on USB 2.0 ports, but when I plug it into my USB 3.0 front port. it comes on and works fine until I start doing heavy moving etc. It then starts to make a clicky noise and freezes. It may then unfreeze and continue for a bit and freeze again etc. If I'm just doing small stuff like watching a video off it etc, it seems to be alright. When I plug it into the back USB 3.0 it looks to be ok. I copied over a huge amount of files to the computer at nice speeds with no trouble that I could find.

This to me sounds like the USB 3.0 in the front is not receiving enough power or something. I have been using a USB 2.0 HDD on the 3.0 port for a while before and have not noticed any problems. Is there a chance at ALL that this could be the HDD? I want to return it while I still can if it is.

And any suggestions or ideas on how to get this working would be welcome!

Thanks!

I just borrowed a WD My Passport 1TB with USB 3.0 from a friend. It does no better than my Canvio on my front USB 3.0 ports. Works just fine on the back ones though. Also works fine through USB 2.0

So I guess this is a USB 3.0 issue on my front ports only? Is there any way to resolve this? Will buying a USB 3.0 Y cable help solve this problem?
