USB 3.0 case but a 2.0 motherboard ?

Hello,

I am willing to buy a case which has a USB 3.0 slot in front, but the motherboard I am also willing to buy only support USB 2.0.

Does that mean I'm going to have a PC with a USB 3.0 functioning ? Or My motherboard must support USB 3.0 as well ?

Cases just provide the slots, but its the motherboard that has to support USB 3.0 to have you use it. In a way the scenario is you would have a PC without USB 3.0!

The Corsair Carbide 400R comes with a adapter to convert the front panel USB3 to USB2 so you would be able to plug them into your motherboard.

Hehe.. I thought so, but I said to my self that I'd better ask than rely on a random guess.

I was actually willing to save some cash by buying a cheaper mobo but I guess I'll try find a Motherboard with a USB 3.0. It will be cheaper and a better deal.

Biostar might be a good start.

I was wondering the opposite. Can a motherboard that has usb 3.0 connect with a case with 2.0?

yes it can because a motherboard that supports usb 3.0 will always have a usb 2.0 plugin as well
