I have a noob question. I have an external powered hdd and a USB flash drive both USB 3.0. My laptop only has 1 USB 3.0 port and two USB 2.0 ports.

If I want to transfer data from the Flash drive to the external HDD is it better to get a USB 3.0 hub or is it better to have one device in the USB 3.0 port and the other in the USB 2.0 port in the laptop?

If it is better to get a hub will I need a powered hub or will a passive hub do the same job since the hdd is already powered and flash drive doesn’t need power?

Solution
The external hdd on the usb 2.0

usb stick on usb 3.0

since hard drives are slow. i dont think your drive will go much higher than 70 mbps
while usb 2.0 can do 60mbps.

while the usb stick is only bottlenecked by the usb 2.0
