Hiya heya.

Browsing the web, and I came across a USB 3.0 Docking Station for Hard Drives of the 2.5 and 3.5in types. (My computer has two available USB 3.0s in the rear). I want to do some light recording of some gameplay footage, backup, and other stuff.

I was wondering if this would be a great solution. My computer can't fit a second hard drive, and plus my 300w PSU might not be enough for any secondary, internal components running with a GTX 750Ti. I got a $50 gift card, and I am willing to pay up to $60 if need be.

Thanks!

Merry Christmas, mclightning88!

I suppose the WD Black would be a better solution then.
Basically because it is designed specifically to deliver performance and be used for heavy workload like demanding software apps and gaming. The 1 TB of both WD Black and Blue overlap in specs but yet they are designed for different purposes and thus deliver different performance which I think you'd notice if you have them both side by side.
You can check more of WD...
Hey there, mclightning88!

You should be able to do that. However, I'd have to ask if you want to store the gameplay footage or you wish to record it through the dock station?
In which case, you should keep in mind that externally powered HDD won't be as fast as an internal SATA-powered drive, even with USB 3.0. I guess I'd simply use this drive as a storage for the gameplay footage and record on your internal drive. But this really depends on the capabilities of that internal HDD.
However, can you share the model of your WD drive? Is it a WD Blue or a Black?

Keep me posted!
Happy Holidays! :)

Thanks for the reply! I was wanting to use it to record on. Read Internal, write external. I was looking at WD Blue 7200rpm, but I could go WD Black too. Looking at the Blue one, WD2500AAKX (250GB). Black, WD5003AZEX (500gb).

I have an internal WD Blue 1TB 7200rpm, WD10EZEX.
