Hey again Tom's community,

So I just clean installed Windows 8.1 x64 on my PC. I installed drivers and everything. Rebooted multiple times, all works well.

My PC: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zB2bdC
My Specific Mobo: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-ga970ads3p
Driver link: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4591#ov

BUT... then after transferring files from my W.D. USB 3.0 External and then leaving my pc for a while, I came back to see that my computer would not register the ext drive. I tried both usb 3.0 ports and both did not respond, but I tried a usb 2.0 port and it worked fine, so the drive is fine. I checked the device management and there were no "unknown device" listing either. So I decided to uninstall the driver and reinstall it. Nothing happened. Still would not correct.

I personally thank anyone who can help me with this problem, even slightly. I'm terrible when it comes to software.

Worthy to mention:
- I have not updated my BIOS to the latest version. Some of my tech friends say I shouldn't as I could compromise my system. Others say I should. Comments?
- While Newegg says my Mobo is rev 2.0 under the link, no other sites say so. I don't know what rev version mine is, or what rev is, and it won't show up under system information. I installed drivers from rev 1.0 and I checked the other versions and it seems that all the drivers are the same. All other drivers seem to work. I will update if I find out otherwise.

Also:
If anyone has a guide on drivers that would help me become better with familiarizing myself with drivers with more than just the basics, like: this does that. period., but isn't an engineering book I would love that. I'm just a 1.5 year old PC convert.

EDIT:
It now will fail to allow me to reinstall USB 3.0 drivers.

You gotta start somewhere. Keep goin. Latest BIOS and upgrade to W10 . 10 has all fresh drivers. Drivers are an endless battle and the OS and the manufacturer of a device are where to look. Stay away from third party driver up daters!
We did all three machines and a lot of problems plain ole disappeared:).

I'm still picky about windows 10 as gaming performance is questionable. As for the BIOS upgrade, you are SURE thats okay right? And should I uninstall all my drivers before I upgrade BIOS? (I did get drivers from the Gigabyte site)
