USB 3.0 not working

Hey guys, since day 1 when I built my PC I have had an issue when I plug anything into the USB 3.0 slot where I get a pop up message stating the device could perform faster if I had it connected to an USB 3.0 port. Does anyone have an idea as to why this is not working? I checked the connections on the motherboard and the cord is plugged into the slot labeled USB 3.0, so I'm at a loss. Thank in advance for any help.

check the mb vendor make sure you have the newest bios file on the mb and the newest intel or amd chipset. also check to see if your mb uses 3 party usb chipset like asmedia if your mb has asmedia chipset make sure you have the newest drivers for it.

Are you running Windows 7? If so, install the USB 3.0 drivers.
