USB 3.0 on PCI-E 2.0 1x, any faster then usb 2? I don't care about use case or what you think my external devices can output.

It seems, looking at the specs a PCI-E 2.0 1x slot should be 500mb/s and usb 2.0 is 480mb/s.

Question is, has anyone actually bought an addon card and tested if it's even marginally faster than usb 2.0? If so what version of PCI-E is on your MOBO? Only interested in PCI-E 2.0. Cards are cheap but it seems pointless. It's be nice to have usb 3.0 ports but since it's backward compatible there's no point in upgrading for the same speed.

Solution
usb 3.0 host controller is going to be faster than the usb 2.0 hosts that you have on the motherboard only if you connect usb 3.0 devices;
most usb devices on the market are still usb 2.0 devices;
