Hi - A few days ago, I installed a brand new Renesas USB 3.0 PCI-e card in my PC (HP Compaq 8200 Elite MT, running 64bit Windows 7 Professional). The card came with a driver disk. When I initially installed the driver, it showed up in Device Manager and the card worked fine. However, after the first restart of the system, the driver no longer appears in Device Manager and any drive I connect to the card doesn't show up in My Computer. I have just updated my BIOS from the 2011 version to the 2014 version, but it didn't cure it. I also tried reloading the driver, but nothing changed. Can anyone kindly suggest the likely cause - and a cure?

TYVMIA!

Thank you. I'm not sure if I understand what you said. However, I tried uninstalling the driver supplied with the card, and then installed another 'Renesas USB 3.0 host controller driver' from the Intel site (a bigger file). That driver didn't appear in Device Manager either.

I did a Windows upgrade (to exactly the same Win version) and then the driver appeared again. But it was not there after the first reboot.

The extra USB ports (provided by the card) do show in my BIOS.

I'm not sure what else to try, other than return the card to the seller, which would be a shame, if it's just a matter of some simple fix to get it working. Anyone got any ideas?

TIA

I've had the Renesas USB 3 PCI-e card for a couple of years. It never did work reliably in Windows 7, but under Windows 10 it worked perfectly. Until it didn't.
I've been having a lot of Blue Screens (BSODs) lately. It occurred to me that it might be the Renesas card, so I removed it a couple of days ago. No more BSODs! Been running it continuously for over 48 hrs with no problems (I had a Win10 update to get through, then a full backup over USB 2 which takes forever).
I would buy a non-Renesas USB 3 card if I knew which ones are reliable.

What you said is very interesting. Thank you for that. I'm looking to switch to a different USB3 card now, too, but like you, I'd like to know which ones are reliable. The next one I'm thinking of trying is the following, because it also has a SATA (allegedly SATA 3.0) port: https://tinyurl.com/yarunn8e

I would ask the seller some questions about that card before you buy it because from the wording at the bottom of the description it sounds like you have to use a sata cable connected to the motherboard for it to work. Not sure because I've never had that one but that's what it sounds like.

Thank you very much for that! I think you are absolutely correct, now that I've looked into it.
