Hello everyone

I could use some help. I recently bought a Silverstone SilverStone EC04-P PCIe 2.0 x1 expansion card.
It's plugged into a gigabyte PH67A-UD3-B3 board (revision 1.1) bios F9
Using windows 10

For some reason, it only works sometimes. As in when i don't need it usually. When i need it, it doesn't connect. I plugged in a 3.0 Medion hard drive and a USB 3.0 powered hub. Everything i plug in the hub doesn't work, neither does the external hard drive.

I tried installing the latest drivers, (started out with the disc driver) but this didn't help. However when i uninstalled the driver a couple of days later, my drive suddently connected. Which i think i weird.

One more clue i can give you: it's usually named usb 3.0 extensible host controller - 1.00 with a yellow trianlge (when not working) OR usb xHCI compliant host controller with a yellow triangle. Removing from device manager and scanning for new hardware does not have any effect. It keeps comming back as USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller.

I am aware my motherboard has USB 3.0 but these have never worked with USB 3.0 devices, they keep disconnecting and reconnecting, whichever device i try. IF anyone knows something to try with these, i'd be happy to :)

Speccy indicates 2 PCI slots are available but doesn't mention PCIe slots.

Thanks in advance, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me ^^

Best regards Glenn

some motherboards, have bios extensions for the USB 3 sub systems.
they did this to make usb 3 run faster than other motherboards, mainly before the new standards were finalized.
so if you have a BIOS version before about march of 2013 you will want to update it or disable the USB bios extensions.
Since they will not conform to the final usb 3.0 specs.

you might also download and run usbview.exe
i would get it here: http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Utilities.htm
(hit can help find problems in the usb ports (i have one port on my new machine I could never get to work, this tool shows the failure)

----------
sometimes driver updates are not actually selected when they are installed. Mainly because of quirks of the plug and play.

The USB 3.0 card is the problem, it's plugged into a PCIe slot, with a 4-pin molex for power. I don't know why i'd need a USB 3.0 cable to go into the card though. It does work from time to time, but i'd like it to work at any given time instead of sometimes.....

The USB 3.0 ports on my motherboard are as useless as the card. They randomly disconnect with every usb 3.0 device. It mostly connects for a second and then disconnects again every second or so.

Unfortunately i already did that some time ago, F9 is still the latest bios for revision 1.1

sorry.

sounds like a bum card really. these aren't amazingly complicated devices. they should be basically plug and play. Get yourself another card, probably from a different manufacturer. Ideally something that's plug and play with windows 10. (if it is plug and play with windows 8.1 it is plug and play with windows 10)

sometimes driver updates are not actually selected when they are installed. Mainly because of quirks of the plug and play.
if you installed a update you might remove the old driver package from the driver store, so that plug and play will be forced to use the new driver.
how to remove a driver from the driver store:

----------
be sure to go into BIOS and reset it to defaults and reconfigure, this will force the BIOS to re scan the hardware and reassign hardware resources.
It will rebuild the database it sends to windows about the used hardware settings.
--------------
google "how to force a memory dump with a keyboard" make the registry changes
then change the memory dump type to kernel memory dump and reboot and force a memory dump on your working system.
put your c:\window\memory.dmp file on a server like microsoft onedrive, share the files as public and post a link.
I can look to see if you have the correct drivers installed.
