Usb 3.0 pen drive vs msata ssd drive 128g ish.. real world any ideads which is better?lst longer?

So my gigabyte bix has the option to install a msata drive internally but it also has 4 3.o usb ports to which i could add a hub to connect said 128 gb pen drive to, in order to protect it from the heat of my machine

given the cost of a 128gb msata is 60+$ and the usb 3.o of similar sive is 40$ and a usb 3.0 hub is 10-15$

i’m really up in the air about which is the better route

Anyone available who can offer real world experience on which route might actually be better in terms of performance vs cost?
