My Acer Aspire E5-571PH-524H has 2 USB 2.0 Ports and one blue USB 3.0 Port.

I recently brought a Samsung M3 External Hard Drive (1TB = 931.5GB) and reviews say that I should be getting read AND write speeds of over 100 MB/s. Unfortunately, plugged into USB 3.0 port, only around 40MB/s:

Is there anything wrong?

I assume that is random R\W speed. The review I remember had sequential R\W speeds of like 120MB/s but only around 40MB/s random.
I would suggest taking a large file and actually trying to copy it to the drive and see what speeds you get, and then copy it back.

Thank you for your suggestion. I did that with the Windows 10 Technical Review Build 10074 ISO file and got transfer speeds of 39.7 consistently. However Windows Task Manager reported 40.9MB/s, also consistent. Copying TO and FROM the Ext HDD was the same speed.

Also on the USB 2.0 Port I received 32.8MB/s all the way, with Task Manager reporting 33.3MB/s
