Hi,
i've recently build a new PC and i have a problem with my USB 3.0 ports. The problem is, they rarely work. If i plug anything into them (external hard drive, flash drive, wireless headset, anything) it doesn't work at all most of the time. I have to plug it and unplug it lot of times and maybe in 1 from 10 tries it sometimes works.
But when i put anything to USB 2.0 it works every time withou problem.

I've got Fractal Define R5 with two front 3.0 and several 3.0 in back side. Everything is plugged correctly.
I have Gigabyte H97 D3H motberboard revision 1.0 and i have most recent drivers directly from the gigabyte website, even the usb 3.0 driver. It installed correctly, its in the device manager, says its working correctly.
I have Win 7 proffesional.
Thanks.

Hi there Molda_22,

You can try the ports on the back of your computer case and see whether the issue persists.
After your USB 2.0 port work but your USB 3.0 don't, I would say that this sounds a lot like a drivers related issue. Though, the fact that the drive gets recognized 1 time out of 10, could point to physical MOBO problem.
This is why, it will not hurt to reinstall your USB 3.0 drivers. You can download them from here: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4962#dl
If the issue persists, it may be a good idea to contact the MOBO's manufacturer Support.

It's happening with all of them. Those on front panel and even with those on the back of the case. Later when i get home back from work, i will try to reinstall the drivers again and we will see.

So i've uninstalled the driver, installed it again. Again everything looks ok in device manager. First three tries was ok, but then it started happening again. It's doing mostly with my external Western Digital My Book harddrives. (i have usb 3.0 versions of them and the cables are also 3.0.) And when it finally shows up(after 10 or so tries) the transfering speeds are around 20-40 mb/s which are USB 2.0 speeds, not 3.0 speeds. (Both flash drive and external hard drive has this low speeds)
So you think my motherboard is somehow broken?

Just attach one of the drives to another system. If it gets picked up right away, you will be sure that it is something related to your system.
If this is the case, and given the fact that you have reinstalled the USB 3.0 drivers, I would say that there may be something wrong with your MOBO. It will not hurt to contact its manufacturer's Support.

I guess you can test the drives as well. Though, I don't think they are causing this. In WD's case, you can use WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=pBHree
The test results should indicate if there is something wrong with them.
