will my laptop support the fast transfer speeds of a usb 3.0 adapter? I am weary about purchasing one for 35$ and wondered if anyone had any input.

(1) Usb 3 thumb drives are backwords compatable and should be fine on usb 2 port. In some cases they will run faster than the avg USB 2 drives, BUT not true for all. A couple of usb 2 thumbdrives (Sata II) perform much faster than others (SATA II). Also there is a big difference between the SATA III Thumbdrives, so make sure you check the specs.

(2) as to usb 3 on your laptop. The specs should list what ports are available.
If no USB 3 ports, then you need a expresscard slot for and can use a addon card to provide additional USB3 ports.
