Hi - I am trying to connect my external monitor (Benq xl2420t) to my laptop (Dell Inspiron 7577). I inserted a USB-C thunderbolt 3 cable into my laptop and inserted the displayport into my monitor. When I go into my display settings, it says that my monitor is connected to my iGPU. Is there a way that I can connect my monitor to my Nvidia card (GTX 1060 Max-Q)? I am not able to play at 120hz when connected to my iGPU because my game experiences lag/periodically crashes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Processor: Core i7-7700HQ

You've got a laptop with switchable graphics --- the iGPU is used by default by Windows. This applies to both the laptop screen and external monitor.

You can configure the Nvidia GPU to automatically override the default per application or per game usually by right-clicking the application or game shortcut and choosing from the pop-up menu.
Then start that application or game and it should then automatically use whichever GPU you selected.
