I have a 1Gbps fiber connection and when I use my PC or home server that are wired via Ethernet I get full speeds (up & down). But when I tried connecting my MacBook Pro to the Ethernet wire using a Anker USB C to Ethernet Adapter, Portable 1-Gigabit Network Hub I get a very jumpy connection, starting fas then quickly dropping to around 100Mbps (10MB/s). I get faster speeds using Wi-Fi.

Is this a USBc limitation, or could the adapter be faulty, or is there some configuration issue, or what? Does anyone else have any experience with this? And what is the best USBC-to-Ethernet adapter on the market?

Are u using an apple OEM adapter or third party?

Knowing Apple, if u want trouble-free, don't want to think about it, OEM is the way to go. If u going third party, well, u gotta play the middle man between adapter vendor and Apple with all the diplomatic skill u can muster.

Go to Realtek website and download the latest drivers for the device.
You will find the drivers by clicking the hamburger Menu icon> Downloads> Communications Network ICs.
On the Choose Sub-category drop down menu select Network Interface Controllers>10/100/1000M Gigabit Ethernet> USB 3.0 and then click the Software link.
Scroll down to "MAC OS 10.6 to 10.13" and click the download link.
Follow the installer instruction to apply the new network settings.

It appears installing the driver partially fixed it. Now my down speed seems to be capping at around 700Mbps but the upload speed is stuck at 100Mbps! 🙁 Is this normal or should I be getting 1000Mbps up and down?

Other devices push the full 1000Mbps up and down.

Then no, it's not "normal".

Do you happen to have another Type-C enabled system you could check? If you can get the full up/down on a Windows based setup then you can determine the issue to lie between the dongle & MacOS.
If you suffer the same upload limitation inside Windows, then the problem sounds like it'll sit with the dongle.

Unfortunately the macbook is the only USBC device in my possession. At this point I can't figure out what else to do other than wait for the Belkin dongle and hope it doesn't have the same issue...

It appears the same issue is happening with the belkin. My download never seems to go above 750mbps but my upload is always capped at 100mbps.

Now I suspect it might be a configuration or software driver thing. Are there belkin drivers? I cannot seem to find them.

When you open Network, what's showing in the Speed and Duplex sections.
Make sure you have a Cat5 or better cable....so try using another Ethernet cable.

Also try resetting the SMC and see if the speed changes.
-Disconnect all peripherals and power off (Apple menu > Shut Down).
-Make sure the AC power is plugged to the device.
-Press and hold Shift+Control+Option (left side of the keyboard), then press and hold the power button.
Hold the 3 keys and power button for 10 seconds, the release all.
Press the power button to turn on your device.

700 down and 100 up sounds like you are running 1/2 duplex. 800 mbps is what I generally get as sustained throughput on large file transfers (mp4 DVDs of movies I burned using Handbrake) using a quality non-blocking switch.

Yeah I would avoid Belkin. They can't seem to make up their mind what they want to sell. They acquired linksys and linksys's quality went to crap. Now it's getting sold again IRRC.
