Hello, my first time posting here. I have an issue with my 128g Samsung flash drive when I plug it in my usb port inside my car and it comes out to saying "error". The very first time I got this flash drive, I put music on it and it played perfectly fine in my car. After transferring files on this flash drive I had to format my flash drive to NTFS (because the file I was trying to transfer was to large to transfer on exFAT). After doing that I realized my flash drive stopped working in my car and gave me these errors. I tried reformatting it back to its default format and it still gives me the same error message in my car. The only file system I have is NTSF and exFAT for this flash drive. Any suggestions?

I have snooped around the forum trying to find some solutions, but couldn't find any that would fix that problem. Thanks.

Solution
No problem, but if it was a 4GB + file and you couldn't write it because of the restriction, then it definitely was a FAT32 file system. Seem like you car audio system does not support devices with NTFS or exFAT. So go straight with formatting the whole flash drive with the FAT32 file system. Here's a helpful article on the subject: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/format-large-hard-drive-fat-fat32/
Hey there, Paul.

This is a bit unusual. Basically exFAT does not have the limitation of FAT32 (which means that you should've been able to write a file larger than 4GB), so are you sure that the flash drive was not formatted with the FAT32 system before?
Basically you could try reformatting it with exFAT by using another computer, to see if the same thing happens again. Other than that you could try deleting its partition by using Disk Management and then when you try to format it create a partition with less thena 32GB so that you have the FAT32 option available. Give this a try and if it work download a 3rd party partitioning tool in order to be able to create one large partition with the FAT32 File System, since with Disk Management you can create the limited size of 32GB.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Yeah, I don't know. I bought this flash drive new from amazon and transferring music was no problem and videos too, until I got to one video that was about 4 sum gigs and it wouldn't allow me. That's when I researched and found out how to format it to ntsf and then the video would transfer over. What's weird also is that after formatting it once to ntsf, it also wouldn't read on ps4 from what my brother told me. I'll try what you've suggested and I'll get back to you with results :^)

Solution
I tried the article above and I did the format through cmd and it took couple hours and once it reached 100%, all it said was The volume is too big for FAT32.
Format failed. I am not familiar with formatting these things, but I'll look around what else I could do. And to mention, this usb used to work perfectly fine on exFAT in my car the very first time I got it. It's after I formatted it ntsf once and after that it stopped. Even back to exFAT. So I don't possibly think it's my cars audio system. I think..

Okay, I have fixed the issue. I used this website: http://www.jdhodges.com/blog/format-fat32-on-64gb-128gb-256gb-usb-flash-drives-on-windows/ to help my problem where it would play in my car. After this process was completed, it says that the usb is now FAT32 file system. You were probably right Boogieman, I just had no idea exactly what I had to do hah, but now it seems to be at default just as I first got it. I appreciate the help :) Sorry for all the inconveniences as I am new to these formatting things, but definitely learned something out of it. Thank you!

No inconvenience whatsoever. Good job on figuring things out by yourself.

Basically the 3rd party tools from the other article should have worked, but you never know, the important thing is that everything is up and running.
This is not an uncommon things with older players, TVs and AV equipment in particular. Most of them don't support NTFS like the newer models and even some relevantly new devices still go with FAT32 only.

You can find out more about FAT32, NTFS and exFAT, from here if you are interested: http://www.howtogeek.com/235596/whats-the-difference-between-fat32-exfat-and-ntfs/

For future reference, you can always contact me when you have issues like that or come to the forum, there's always someone who will offer help. :)

Cheers!

fat32 is for drives 32gbs or less. To get anything bigger than a 32gbs drive try fat32format. ridgecrop consultants Ltd click on "here" then follow instructions just make sure the drive that has been chosen is the one you want reformatted. Hope this helps & good luck
