Hi All,

As topic title says I am having problems setting up my USB ports to charge my wireless razer mamba mouse while computer is switched off.

I have recently re-installed windows and just before I did that I also did BIOS upgrade.
I don't remember which version I had before but at the moment I have the latest one for P8Z77-V LX motherboard.

Before windows re-install, once I switched off my computer my phone and wireless mouse was still charging which was great. Just the thing that I wanted.

However, now, once I switch off my computer power just cuts off.

I have checked EuP Power setting more and that is disabled.
Intel xHCI Mode is set to enabled
EHCI Handoff is set to enabled.

I cannot think of anything else that needs to be done.
I have installed Ai Suite and made sure that all settings are set to maximum performance (no energy saving what so ever...)

All chipset drivers installed. Everything is done...

Now, I know you will say that only Yellow USB ports can charge devices while computer is off but this is clearly not true as my computer was charging devices before windows reinstall.

I am using windows 8.1 now (same before re-install)

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thank you for your time and help.

Kind Regards,
Arturs.

Check your motherboard manual, it should clearly indicate which ports are supposed to support charging from standby/off and which jumper(s) or BIOS options, if any, you need to set for that to work. On my motherboard, I have one jumper that enables 5VSB for the two ports on the front panel header and another jumper that enables 5VSB for one of the rear USB port pairs.

I know USB 3.0 ports are always kept on so maybe you just aren't connecting the cable to the 3.0 port? Like InvalidError said, it's best to check your motherboard manual (or look up the manual if you don't have it) and see if and where that feature is available

Thank you both for your reply.

The problem is that I am using the exact same USB ports that I was using before windows re-install and I haven't opened my computer case to change any jumper settings.

Everything is exactly the same as it was before installation (apart from BIOS upgrade)
I have plugged my front ports into the USB 3.0 extension socket on motherboard (or how you call them...)

I have read the manual and I cannot find any information regarding this function but it was definately working as I was using it for around 18 months every single day... :(

Have no idea what have gone wrong :(

Maybe something has actually gone right instead - are you 100% certain your PC was fully shutting down before?

(Did you have case fans or LEDs connected directly to PSU outputs? Did those turn off? If all your case accessories are powered through motherboard headers, it is possible your PSU was staying on and that was where your USB ports' power was coming from.)

Thanks again for your reply.

Everything is connected to my motherboard.
I have LED on my case fan and that was always off.
HDD and CPU LEDs on the front panel were never flashing so it was not in sleep mode.
Hibernation is always disabled to save space on my SSD drive.

My PSU is XFX Pro Black Edition 750W

If that was the case and PSU was pushing power to my motherboard and powering up USB ports then why would it stop after simple windows re-install?
I want it to do same thing again :(

I am starting to think about bios downgrade... as this is only thing I actually changed I might try to go back to an older version of BIOS and see what is going to happen.

Your thoughts?

You may have had a piece of stray software/driver or a configuration somewhere preventing full ACPI-off and re-installing Windows may have cleared it - happened on a few of my PCs in the past.

I think I have found out what was causing charging before: Asus Ai Charger+

If you plug in your device before shutdown then it will also charge while your PC is turned off
This is the exact behaviour I had before windows re-install.

Only thing I cannot understand is how did I got that software onto my computer and it is not compatible with windows 8.1 :S

Will keep trying :)
