So recently my computer has been playing me the USB connection and disconnection sound for no reason. After checking the Device Manager, it seems that an "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" keeps connecting and disconnecting. When the notification pops up and is clicked, it gives the error "USB device not recognized" with the description reading "The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." Sometimes it'll do a bunch of connects and disconnects in quick succession and sometimes there will be a lull of some time before its next connect/disconnect, but the issue as a whole continues to persist.

It's not a major problem, since I can just ignore it, but it's really starting to get on my nerves. I've tried restarting the computer which didn't fix anything, unplugging my keyboard and mouse (the error still persisted with both of them unplugged), and even turning the power supply off via the switch on that for a second or two. Has anyone run into this issue before?

I tried unplugging and replugging the USB front panel headers into a new port, but that hasn't solved anything. I can't think of anything else that's plugged into a USB port, as I've only got a normal air cooler plugged into a fan header, and my hard drives aren't popping in and out of windows explorer so it can't be them. My roommate joking but roughly pulled out my keyboard and mouse USB cords from the back, could that have caused something to break? I don't notice any dropped key presses or movements from them, though.

I do not think it would cause issues. USB ports are pretty tough(unless you break the plastic part that holds the pins inside).

What board do you have? Does it happen to have onboard usb wireless?
A bad cable caused my card reader to do something similar(but only when hitting the cable).

It may not hurt to leave the front USB disconnected while testing, but even a bad cable should not cause this issue since a cable alone will not even talk to Windows.

I'm using the Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 5 which doesn't come with wireless, so it can't be that. Could it be a program or something? I may have downloaded some not-so-safe files so if one of them is trolling me I kind of deserve it. So far my fix has been disabling notifications and windows sounds as a whole, which seems to work in a duct tape sort of way.
