hello there, i'm having issues with my USB devices disconnecting and reconnecting, only just starting up tonight.
i was in the middle of playing a game when i kept hearing the sounds of devices being disconnected and reconnected, only for it to finally just disconnect everything usb altogether. after a reboot, things are mostly working fine, except now and again i still hear the noises that indicate it's still happening.
i looked into the event viewer and found several errors, namely event ID 360 (User Device Registration), 200, 201 and 202 (DeviceSetupManager).
event ID 360 says:
"Message Windows Hello for Business provisioning will not be launched.
DeviceIsJoined: Not Tested
AADPrt: No
NgcPolicyEnabled: Not Tested
NgcHardwarePolicyMet: Not Tested
UserIsRemote: Yes
LogonCertRequired: Not Tested
MachinePolicySource: none"
200, 201 and 202 say:
"A connection to the Windows Update could not be established."
"A connection to the Windows Metatdata could not be established."
"The Network List Manager reports no connectivity to the internet."
i also noticed random brief disconnects to the internet earlier, despite my internet connection being stable and saying "connected" when checking network connections. has been stable for a while now though.
i thought the usb thing might of been a heat-related issue, since the problem was happening more frequently during a video game. however, prior to recent windows updates everything has run fine with no issues whatsoever, even when playing the game for hours on end, and doesn't explain the weird disconnects to the internet.
all my drivers/firmware for hardware in general are up to date.
edited to add: definitely not a heat issue. was running average programs, temperature fine, mouse and keyboard working well for a couple hours no issues, when suddenly disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly in succession to a point where i couldn't do anything and had to reboot again. feel more convinced this has something to do with windows' updates.
this time it was a string of event ID 822 errors, which read:
"MDM PolicyManager: Acquiring the merge lock, Policy: (NULL), Area: (NULL), Result 0x80070002. The system cannot find the file specified.."
the following errors read mostly the same, except the name of policy changed, but the area seemed to be "DataProtection".
a little while after this, it happened again, this time no long list of errors, but i did find this event ID 7022:
"The Delivery Optimization service did not respond on starting."
also, i've been googling around for solutions and already i've tried: the power management trick, attempted to switch off metadata refresh (didn't work, even with administrator privileges), uninstalling recent windows updates and blocking them, uninstalled and reinstalled the latest USB drivers from my mobo manufacturer, still haven't gotten anything to work. it still happens at random intervals, sometimes just a reconnect, and sometimes diconnecting constantly and is unusable until reboot. please help!
