USB & disc drive ports not working

Hello,
All of a sudden about two weeks ago one of my ports for my wireless router dongle decided to quite so I used another and after a couple days that quit as well. Now none of the four work nor does the disc drive. I have tried everything to attempt to correct this but I get the same result. I don't know if it is in the system configuration I am missing or the CPU board going bad. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to buy a new board and have the same results their by telling me it was the Windows 7 software all together. I could re-install Windows 7 but I do not want to delete all my programs I use that are loaded. Any wisdom out there you could guide me to. thanks much

What router (make/model) are you using?

The router is a Nextgear N600 dual band router but that is not the problem because my problem seems to be not just with the internet connection via my wireless adapter but also the other three USP ports left that do not connect to the flash drive nor the DVD-CD player recorder is not working as well. I am thinking it must be either the board or some kind of connection for the USB and other ports not working as well. It started with at first only one port then after about a month of switching to different usb port they all decided not to work along with the DVD player etc. If this will help you I hope so. In the meantime I am using my back up computer which has Windows 7 on it. The computer in question has Windows XP which I really liked and have loads of programs on it along with about 800Gigs onf info etc on it that I cannot burn to a disc etc. Hope this helps out and thanks for the tip on the E-mail as well as phone number as you are very right on that. Sorry, but your posting is less than clear. Regardless, sounds like one of your PCs has a problem with its USB ports. It is possible that the mobo is defective, but we don't know yet.

Please provide the basic specs for the system in question, including all installed devices. Make/model/etc.

On the system in question, are you using the USB ports on the back of the system (connected directly to the motherboard) or to front panel ports?

Last, be sure to include the make/model number of your wireless adapter.

Thanks much for the update. The wireless adapter is a US Robotics MaxG 5421, but the ports on the front and the back do not work at all. It doesn't matter what I hook them to. In the device manager is says they are working fine but they are not. Maybe I can uninstall them and re-install them if I know how. That may work I don't know. The coputer is a HP dual core 2.6ghz system if that will help. I am thinking it would most likely be best if I just replace the board but I hate to do that unless I know if it has a chip or crach in one of the connections on the board?? Go into your device manager, right click on the device you want to uninstall, select uninstall and when asked about removing the drivers say yes, reboot. Windows will re-detect the "new" devices and attempt to reload the drivers.

Sounds like your problem is the PC's motherboard (with USB ports) and is not an issue with your network devices.
