I'm in a bit of a bind here and could use some expert advice. I've been dealing with a peculiar problem on my 9-year-old PC. The issue is related to USB connectivity. My USB devices keep disconnecting and sometimes there's no power to them at all. It's worth noting that my computer is still running smoothly, even handling demanding tasks like playing GTA on high settings and running software like Premiere Pro, After Effects, and 3ds Max without any hiccups.

I've done some troubleshooting and can rule out a few potential culprits. I've checked the RAM and GPU, and they seem to be working fine. My CPU temperature is within the normal range, averaging around 35-40°C, while the ambient temperature is about 32°C. However, when I connect a mouse or keyboard directly, they start stuttering. Oddly, if I use an externally powered USB hub, everything works perfectly.

At this point, I suspect the issue may be related to my PSU (Power Supply Unit). Unfortunately, it's the one component I can't easily check or replace myself. I'd really appreciate any insights or suggestions from the community. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Could the PSU be the likely culprit, or could it be something else I'm overlooking?

Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Processor - i7 4770
Motherboard - Gigabyte ga b85 d3h
Ram - gskills rip jaws 8gb x 4
Graphic card - Asus 1060 3gb
Cabinet/chasy - ask 4000b-u3 ( Dimensions 17.3 (H) x 7.3 (W) x 16.2 (D) )
( 440mm (H) x 145mm (W) x 412mm (D) )
Power Supply - Antec VP550P
Solid State Drive - Crucial MX 500 1TB
Hard Drive - 1 tb WD blue

Now, considering my PC's age and the fact that I use it for video editing, graphics, 3D work, and some casual gaming, what other upgrades could I potentially consider apart from the PSU? Are there any components that could significantly boost its performance in these areas without breaking the bank? Your suggestions would be invaluable.

Do you have Power Management switched off for all USB Hubs in Windows Device Manager? This stops Windows shutting down USB devices when they are "idle" to save power.

Yes, that's the setting you need to change. Remove the check marks from the boxes for all the root hubs on the mobo. It might improve things.
