USB does not work on my Xperia Z2

I just bought one of these for my phone:

I want to use things like my Xbox controllers or USB drives for quick access to my phone to my computer, but when i plug anything in using this adapter nothing shows up(BTW I bought this from Canada Computers not Amazon)why is it not working? Please do not tell me this won't work because I have seen others do it and it worked for them but what is wrong with the way I am doing it?

The device has to USB OTG -on the go- to connect a USB drive as storage and there's no way you can use a Xbox controller with your phone
