USB 16 gb drive shows in Device Manager/Disk Management as a removeable device with drive letter F:. No volume info (No Data). Does not show in My Computer. Does show in Devices as a 'Mass Storage Device" with Drive F:. Scan is greyed out. Same on different XP and Win7 pc.

Hey Cowley173. Are trying to recover data from it or format and partition it so that it would work? If you are trying to recover your data, take a look at this article, you might find something useful in it: http://www.computerworld.com/article/2501547/data-storage-solutions/6-data-recovery-tools-for-sd-cards-usb-drives-and-more.html
And have you tried to change the letter of the USB flash drive to see if it would show up in Windows Explorer normally? Here's how to do that: http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/137/

Hope that helps.

I changed the Drive letter which showed in Disk Management. Still drive does not show in 'My Computer' nor does it show a file system or capacity in Disk Management. This all happened after I connected it to a Motorola Android phone in order to move files over. It was not recognized by phone. Put it back on laptop. This is when it first was not recognized. This forum allowed me to attached some screen shots for you to see but apparently they don't show here. I think before I can recover data the system has to know the file system, capacity, etc.

Hmm, I'd suggest that you try to recover your data first and then format the drive to see if it will fix it. Unfortunately I can't point you to any specific flash drive data recovery tool, but just Google it and you'll find lot's of options. Hopefully at least one of them will help you to get your data back.
Good luck.

since Disk Manager does not see any petition I cannot format the drive. I was wondering if there is any hardware companies that could look at a physical connection issue.

Unfortunately I don't know who can look at it to say if it is physically damaged, perhaps a computer repair service shop of some sort... Other than that you could try to find a formatting tool. Some manufacturer's have this type of software for their SD cards and USB flash drives, to see if you'll be able to format the flash drive this way.

Hello Have you tried DISKPART? You can format with it

Open Command Prompt and type DISKPART.EXE (it doesn't have to be in caps!!)
then type list disk ( This will show the disks in the system)
type select disk # (the # will be the number of the desired disk)
type clean
type create partition primary
assign
format fs=ntfs/fat32 label="NaMe" quick compress
mount

see if this works
