USB Drive Write Speed Slowing Down

It is my understanding that flash media write speeds slow down the more they are used. Is that true?
I have a Corsair 4G USB thumb drive that I use quite a bit, it seems to take longer to write to it than it used to. Any way of speeding things up? I've already tried reformatting; that doesn't seem to help. I wonder if the same thing is happening to my Compact Flash card in my DSLR?

You already reformatted, there is nothing more to do that i know of.

Kind of what I was thinking. Oh well, at least they are cheap.
Starting to get quite a collection of computer parts that are obsolete and not quite used up.
