make sure there are no devices plugged into them, and also remove
any USB PCI card you may have installed into the board. If you
connected any wires from the case make sure they are properly done, they
can be confusing.

A friend of mine has the exact problem as Ginncan wrote, and we followed the advise farmuse posted and still the same error. We have disconnected/unplugged every cable that has anything to do with the USB or Firewire and even front panel audio. The computer still hangs at POST with the message "Initializing USB Controllers". Very annoying, any more ideas that we could try? Can't even get into BIOS/Setup.

We have tried to start w/o any keyboard and/or USB mouse plugged in but still the same. We are using a keyboard that is connected the old fashion way with PS/2 but still the same error.

Would be great if someone could pitch in with new ideas. The mobo is an Asus K8V SE Deluxe. We found a FAQ on Asus homepage but it only refers to disable any USB controller in BIOS but thats the problem we can't get into BIOS :(

Did anyone solve this?

I'm having the same problem on my brand new Asus P5E3 Deluxe Wifi but only when I use CellShock DDR3-1600MHz ram. If I use Kingston Value Ram DDR3-1066 then it boots normally.

Hi, i know this is might be too late but i just had this problem this morning. I got MSI P31 Neo that has a few busted caps, so i ordered a new caps, soldered it and the board is on again. So i put in a Pentium Dual Core E5300. It does boot but freeze at "Initializing USB Controller" can't go to BIOS and the keyboard just freeze. I've tried almost everything. Swap and change RAM, clean the RAM and PCIe pin, reset CMOS, take out Battery, but the problem still there. So i tried change the CPU to an older Pentium 2.6GHz but it won't even show POST, so i tried to change it again with Celeron D 2.0GHz and it boot with no problem at all. So i think it might be the CPU, but i'm still curious about my wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse might have something to do with it, but then again after changing to Celeron D the keyboard and mouse are working just fine though.

I've had the same problem, solved it by unplugging mouse and keyboard... had to give it some tries in different ways though :p and i think I'm gonna have the same problem whenever i turn off my computer...

I might unplug keyboard and mouse before turning off the computer so it knows it has no usb devices in it...

Guess what. It's actually has been solved, for my case it was the PSU, it seems that the PSU can't deliver enough power to the MB. I tried to change to PSU and it works well. So just try to test it with another PSU first guys.
