[SOLVED] usb Ethernet adapter reconfigure to act as a serial port

i am in the process to get a rack switch from our networking department to use to get my school work done at home well the console port is rj45 (ethernet port) and my computer doesnt have a serial port and nether does my laptop. but what im wanting to know is if i got a rollover rj45 to rj45cable is there a way that i can reconfigure and change some settings to beable talk like a serial port or if i used my usb to ethernet adapter on m laptop is there a way to change and reconfigure a setting to were i can use it to connect to the console port

or even beable to make it to use a com port cause i know they make usb to rj45 console cables but i dont wanna buy one until i try to use what i have
 
Solution
You can't use an ethernet adapter for legacy serial I/O.
Usually you get the proper DB9 to RJ45 from the switch manufacturer and then a USB to DB9 adapter for the computer.
