Hi there,
I recently had a few issues with some USB extension cables I bought.
They work fine on all of my other computers except for the one I want to use it on... typical 😉
Its passive and is 5 meters long, it powers a Kinect for windows sensor ( I have the wall adapter to power the Kinect itself).
My question is, is my computer not supplying sufficient power for the cable?
Do I need a powered USB hub or a repeater to boost the signal?
Or what else could cause this?
Thanks!

Solution

Yes it would help because it has its own AC adapter that powers multi USB ports. The wattage would be better than what the desktop (or laptop) USBs will produce.

Yes that is also an option. And move to a different USB port if necessary.

Better buy a USB hub with dedicated power source. In this way the hub will draw power from the outlet on wall or the power extension board not from the PSU of your computer. If your problem is power related then definitely this config would work without any issue
