USB faster on USB 2 or 3 or The Same?

I have a oldish USB and I want to move some files to it but I am curious to know if it would transfer faster if it was plugged into a USB 3 or USB 2 port. It would help me a ton if I could know what one would be faster or if their wont be a difference.

The older usb 2 drives will be the same speed on 2 or 3 ports. But 3 drives will be slower on 2 ports.

It'll depend upon whether the USB drive supports USB 3.0. If so, using USB 3.0 will be faster. If not, you won't see a difference regarding the USB port you choose.

I've plugged in my USB 2.0 stick in a USB 2 drive and 3 Drive. I can see a little difference and it seems like that the speed of transfer remains the same. However the stick in USB 3 hub acts faster. But anyone can give you their own opinion. Just test it out on few files and find out for yourself.

The usb 3 port will be faster then the 2 port but it will depend on the device you are using. Since you said its older then im guessing its ether usb 1 or 2 which then you will be limited by the devices speed not the plug on your computer.

It shouldn't make a difference. The device will usually be the limiting factor. Unless you have an SSD drive or USB3 flash drive with a USB interface you won't see a difference.

ok, I think its a usb 2 so I guess I should just use the usb 2 ports to save the 3 ones for better gear, Thank you to everyone and I wish it would let me give all of you a solution.
