Question USB hard drive unaccessable in Windows

My laptop battery died whilst transfering photos from my phone to a hard drive.
My phone is ok, my laptop is ok but the hard drive is now unaccessable.
I dont tjhink it is dead but windows cant access it any more, the PC keeps beeping and the drive apearing and disapearing in file explorer.
Is the data on it lost for good?

How old is the HDD in question? Take the HDD to a donor system and see if you're able to access it using a drive dock/adapter.

Its a few years old but never been used until this year.
I have tried it on both my PC and my laptop
The drive inside the caddy does not apear to have a sata socket only a type B usb 3.0 socket plus a 12 (2x6) pin plug thats not visable from the outside.

As a last resort you could try booting your PC from a usb stick with a linux live distro and see if linux will recognize the drive and let you rescue your files from it.

Hi, I quick formatted the drive then downloaded puran file recovery (free) and it found all the files. Allowing me to copy the importatnt ones to another drive.
