[SOLVED] Usb harddisc question

With the western digital exploits of thier nas drives (my book live)
And now their announcing even more. I am looking for a reliable inexpensive 2t usb drive. I need some recommendations... and most that I have seen come with a lot of backup crap installed... can I just reformat the drive and get rid of that stuff ? I just need straight backup storage that I can backup to and just unplug it. Thanks for this basic help. I have some wd 1T drives that have been working for years, but I have lost confidence in them and how they are handling thier current exploit problems.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You could just pick up any enclosure out there on the market and then strap on a laptop or desktop HDD to the enclosure and avoid all the "bloatware" that comes with today's portable hard disks.

The exploit is strictly in the 'backup' software.
The drives are fine.

Any external thing that comes with whatever software included...wipe it clean first. The software is gone, no exploit.

Any HDD of relevant size, and some external enclosure.
Or....any external drive and reformat and delete the existing "backup application".
WD/Seagate/Toshiba/whatever.

Its the same physical drive.
Their backup software is/was the problem.
