[SOLVED] Usb harddisc question

With the western digital exploits of thier nas drives (my book live)
And now their announcing even more. I am looking for a reliable inexpensive 2t usb drive. I need some recommendations... and most that I have seen come with a lot of backup crap installed... can I just reformat the drive and get rid of that stuff ? I just need straight backup storage that I can backup to and just unplug it. Thanks for this basic help. I have some wd 1T drives that have been working for years, but I have lost confidence in them and how they are handling thier current exploit problems.

The exploit is strictly in the 'backup' software.
