USB headset is too quiet. Can't boost the gain on it.

So I recently got a new headset. The Skullcandy SLYR.
My problem is that I can't find a way to boost the mic gain/boost. Usually with other headsets that use the Headphone&Mic Jacks or built in laptop mics there is an option in Windows for Microphone Boost. That option does not exist with USB Headsets. It uses a Generic USB Audio Driver.

It works fine when I test it in Steam and on Xbox 360. It is just too quiet on every other application I try to use it with, including Skype and Google+. I believe it would work if I could boost the Microphone.

Is there a driver for USB gaming headsets other than the Generic USB Audio that Windows Automatically installs?
and/or
Is there a utility or program that can boost the mic for other applications?

The headset didn't come with drivers or software and there is nothing on Skullcandy's website
I read elsewhere that Razer Comms would help but it didn't boost it. I'll try Razer Surround right now.

I downloaded Razer Surround and I don't see any option for the microphone. I only see calibration options for surround sound. Do you know how to adjust the mic with Razer Surround?

I tried the mic with Razer Surround open. No difference.
I also tried switching the input to Razer Line in. No sound through it and Skype just came up with an error for it.

I also tried Razer Comms again with no luck with it either.

It is too late for a return. I had just been using it on my Xbox for last month or so, but I got the headset cause I plan on going to PC gaming in the next year and wanted something compatible with both.

I had an idea for a workaround http://zapt4.staticworld.net/images/article/2012/10/skullcandy20slyr20review20pics-100008518-large.jpg the plug on the left goes to the physical headset and the plug on the right goes to the xbox controller. I'm wondering if it would provide better quality and/or it's own power by using a 3.5mm to 2.5mm cable. Then using a standard mic jack(3.5mm) on the computer.
I don't have cable for that now but I might order one.
