In the link above you see how I tried to merge two USB Dupont Jumpers into one Dupont Jumpers, because I didn't have room for two.

The problem is, that then I connect it to the PC and connect a USB Drive it just says "unregonized USB drive". The thing is, that I have another USB Hub, which I bought in which the drive works fine.

Does anyone know why my DIY solution doesn't work, and explain the difference to a bought USB Hub

You have to select and copy the whole line - the hyperlink markup only covers part of it.

As to the problem itself - an this is only a wild guess - it might be because you don't have enough voltage running through it now, or your connections might not all be solid.

I thought of the voltage problem, but if a normal bought USB Hub without an extra powersupply can deliver enough power, shouldn't this solution not also deliver enough power?

After trying out different setups it does not seem that power is the problem. The problem seeems to be, that because I just merge two cables onto one pin, the PC can't differentiate between signals, and therefore it can't read the USB. I have looked on other USB Hubs and they all have chips on them, which seems to make sure the right signals go to the right places.

Conclusion:
My solution is therefore not viable to make a DIY USB Hub.
