Thanks to Patrick Schmid & Rainer Pabst for their recent article on USB hubs:

In addition to throughput, though, sometimes there are real-time data requirements. For example, although a USB microphone pod has minimal bandwidth requirements (at most 200kbps), the timeliness of that data is critical, especially if the microphone is being used for an application such as speech recognition.

Can any of the USB hubs assign higher priorities to low-bandwidth high-priority devices?

I think we can summarise that USb is a respurce hogging, pointless standard, and that if you want anything to work properly you should buy the legacy or PCI equivalent. Only Joking. However I must admit I personally hate USB and have thus disabled the USB controller on my board. I have a parallel printer, PS2 Mouse and keyboard and PCI everything else, it all works fine.

you want to set priority for usb hub ports????? thats asking for A LOT. maybe some usb hub that costs hundereds but i seriously doubt any devices that need that kind of dedication would be on a usb controler at all. usb is good for cameras, scanners, and external storage devices. a usb microphone is just absurd, same as a usb sound card or speakers.
