Hi Folks,

I have a gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 motherboard (USB2) and I need a hub as I'm fed up with bending down to the back of the machine.

I purchased two hubs, one powered and one passive. When I insert the hub and plug in a memory stick that I know to be good with usb 2.0 it appears under here rather than under the "Standard Enhanced". Its is coming up as:

Standard OpenHCD USB HOST CONTROLLER >>> USB Root Hub >> Generic USB Hub >>>USB Mass Storage Device >>> Generic SD ........

I am therefore only getting USB 1.1 speed with any device attached to the hub. IT was sold as a USB 2 hub. I have also tested it on W7 x64 and it does the same thing.

A second passive hub also does the same thing.

Am I missing something? When I plug a USB2 hub into a USB2 port I should get USB2 speed right?

Both of these hubs are cheap crappy ones of fleabay so I guess I should have know better.

One is here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140894692580
The other is here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181301482236

I have tired to look into them with usbdeview (x64) but tbh it has not helped much. Also tried showing hidden devices in device management and deleting all of the USB hubs, devices, etc from the bottom up and rebooting.

Cheers,
Paul

"When I plug a USB2 hub into a USB2 port I should get USB2 speed right?"

That is correct.

The hub in your second link is, as stated, only USB 1.1 so nothing wrong there.
As for the item in your first link, may be it's a rip-off that's really only USB 1.1

USB hubs are not expensive so it's better to buy one retail from a regular supplier, even online from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1/278-3474352-2117258?url=search-alias%3Dcomputers&field-keywords=usb+2.0+hubs&rh=n%3A340831031%2Ck%3Ausb+2.0+hubs

If it doesn't work as expected you just return it, Amazon refunds your payment without any hassle.

I guess. Thanks for the reply - although for the second link "4 Port High Speed USB 1.1 USB 2.0 HUB Adapter Laptop PC Powered Splitter OO" does suggest it is 480mbps USB - "High Speed" and "USB 2.0" (as well as 1.1 in the title).

This is what was making me think there may be something wrong with my setup. I am using the lates BIOS and the latest and greatest chipset drivers.

Cheers,
Paul

Are you sure everything is connected properly? You can always try asking Gigabyte CS (customer support).
