Putting a usb. In the freezer with pictures on it . Will it keep for years .. I do this in case of s house fire . Have pictures on CD. Already in for years . More storage on usb.

this is so wrong on so many levels. it's not like it keeps them fresh and they don't decay, back up everything to bluray disks and you should be fine. NO FREEZER mr.

Unless you have a specific drive designed to handle the cold and moisture, its a terrible idea.
A standard flash drive would have a far shorter life expectancy in the freezer.

Buy a fireproof safe if you are really interested in keeping something safe from fire. Because guess what, that fridge is going to turn into an oven when there is fire all around it. It may be insulated, but its not fireproof.

cold shouldn't hurt it, but moisture/liquid will. If your freezer fails and everything thaws(melts), how wet will the USB get?
The rule of thumb for long term storage is to have 3 copies, on 2 different media types, and one of those copies being off-site(in case of fire or other disaster)

id consider getting an external hdd for long term storage instead of a usb.
