Hi all, I have a Kingston DT Ultimate usb key that's not working. At first when I would try to access it, it would say that it needs to be formatted. After installing some data recovery software to try to get to the data, its now not even saying that it needs to format. Now when I put in the USB key, either nothing comes up, or it appears in My Computer but when I try to access the drive, an empty window comes up showing the drive is empty. When I try to copy some files into it, it says "Could not find this item. this is no longer located in Computer. Verify the item's location and try again.". Can someone tell me how to get to the data on the usb key?

Hi velocci,
I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer our assistance. It sounds like the drive is not communicating properly with the computer which would prevent data recovery software from being able to scan it. To see if the computer can detect the data partition the drive go into Disk Management and see if it shows the proper capacity for the drive. If it shows the proper capacity but is just not accessible than you may be able to use recovery software that ignores formatting like Photorec (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec). If it shows "no media" and it's the same on multiple computers then your best bet at getting the data would be to contact a data recovery company like DriveSavers (http://www.drivesaversdatarecovery.com/).

As the drive is warratied for five years, we can replace it for you. For further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and an available technician will be ready to assist you.

Thank you for using Kingston Flash drives.

Hi Jewel, thanks for the help. right now the usb key is in the usb port. it show up in Computer and when I double click on the drive letter (G: in this case) it says "please insert the disk in removable disk G:". If I go into Disk Management, it shows up in there, but it doesn't see it as formatted and it says "removable drive G: no media".
