USB keyboard and mouse works but USB stick doesn't

This is on a fresh install of Windows 7. The usb is a SanDisk 16gb.

Does the stick have a locking facility? Is there a tiny switch on it which slides up and down to remove the lock? Have you checked in Control Panel>Device Manager?USB Devices to see if it shows up in the list?

The usb has a slide lock and the usb doesn't show up in the list. Sorry if this isn't how you're meant to reply.

Seems to point to a failure to conenct to the USB port. If you have another, does it work any better?

There is a Registry tweak to remove an entry which prevents this problem.

Press your Windows key and R together and in the Run box that shows up, type
regedit
and hit the Enter key.

From the File menu, choose Export then note the name and location of the file you're creating as a Backup of the Registry if anything goes wrong.

Navigate to this entry in the same way you navigate in File Explorer:-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM> CurrentControlSet > Control > StorageDevicePolicies>WriteProtect. If the setting is not 0 (zero) change it to that and it should make a difference.
