Sir,
Yesterday I bought a Western Digital external hard drive(500 GB/Elements SE). The drive showed in my computer using Windows XP. But when I tried to use it with Windows 7, the external hdd showed in Device manager, but did not show in My Computer icon. When I opened disk management, the external hdd showed up as unallocated (disk 1). When I tried to use 'change drive letter and paths', the computer displayed 'The operation failed to complete because the disk management console view is not up to date. Refresh and restart disk management or restart the computer. But that also did not solve my problem. The computer is displaying the same message even after this. Kindly help. Thanks and regards. S.K.Banerjee.

Hi, Mr Davcon,Thanks for your input. The USB HDD was pre-formatted(NTFS). However, I reformatted the USB hdd and plugged it into my hp laptop running WIN7(Ultimate). It worked fine.
