I use speech recognition (Nuance Dragon) to control my computer. Haven't had any problems over the last three years with the computer until yesterday. Dragon would not work, figured out using Windows 10's voice recorder that the microphone was recording a tapping noise that is just as loud as my voice. The microphone I use is a desktop microphone that plugs into a USB port. I tried another microphone, one that plugs into the 3.5mm jack, and it works just fine. But, the 3.5mm jack microphone is a headset microphone that I would rather not have stuck on my head. Any idea what could be causing the tapping noise on the USB microphone? How can I track down what is causing it?

AMD Athlon X4 860K 3.7 GHz,
Gigabyte Micro ATX DDR3 2133 NA Motherboard GA-F2A88XM-D3HP,
