USB Microphone Static while muted

Hi, I recently purchased a pair of Steelseries Siberia V2 Heat Orange USB headphones, and from day 1 the microphone has been giving off a static noise that appears then disappears when it is on mute. I cannot hear this unless I listen to the device, but people talking to me on skype can if it is muted. I have noticed a few things:

- The static noise appears when the USB soundcard is tapped. It buzzes quickly over and over until it is a continuous buzz (like a parking sensor) and then stops.
- The static starts and stops with audio playing through the headphones whilst on mute
- The static noise is much quieter with ACG disabled

I suspect this may be a problem with the soundcard, due to the static occuring when audio is played, but these headphones are brand new. If anyone has suggestions, they would be much appreciated.

It also appears that changing USB ports does not affect it, whether they be 3.0 or 2.0.
