USB not recognised in any computers/laptops

Hi,
I have a USB which contains a lot of my work in it, it is not being recognised on my laptop or anything other computers. I opened the USB and there was no loose wires or anything. what can I do to retrieve the data from it?

What type of USB drive you have? is it an USB external hard drive or a USB flash drive?

It is a external hard drive

Well, You can try removing the hard drive out from the external enclosure and connect it directly to a computer via an available SATA port and see if the hard drive can be detected and will work there.
