Today my friend told me that a USB is having a problem I told them I'll take a look. The problem was there were trying to copy a file to it which was 20-22 GB of size (the USB is 32 GB) and for no reason they have gotten a message the USB is not recognized or something like that and when they unplug-replug the USB it is unusable.

I thought I can make an easy format to it so it can work again BUT my PC was unable to open the USB as well! (I have Windows 10) when in This PC a drive is shown with the name, the drive letter and the size below it, mine only showed the letter and name. When I double click it it tries to load but nothing happens same thing when double clicking, now I tried opening diskpart but when I hit enter it freezed but the time I unplug the USB it is working!

I tried for last time to plug the USB to another PC and it worked perfectly so I tried to format. First attempt: Format successful, so I returned to my pc and the same. Second Attempt: format with default settings and it worked again on that computer, return to mine and not. Third Attempt: Format to NTFS and failed! open DISKPART in that computer (that the USB only works on) select the Disk 1 which was the USB, enter the command 'clean' and get an error "please check the log for more information", something like that.

I unplugged the drive and replugged it and it said the device must be formatted before use so I hit format I select NTFS and click Start and it says The drive is write protected.

I Tried:

Check ATTRIBUTE DISK within DISKPART READONLY it NO and CURRENT READONLY is YES I searched in google I found a solution to it from this site it was with regedit, to go to certain location and change a value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControl\Control\StorageDevicePolicy. BUT under control I had no folder named StorageDevicePolicy.

I tried a software which I don't remember the name but it was like USB3.0 restore. The exe within WinRAR was named "Restore.exe" i hit format don't work, so I hit restore and it fails....

Rufus (just to try) not working!

The USB Stick
KINGSTON (absolutely no idea on the exact model I don't checked it) 32 GB (as I mentioned above) Purchase Date: less than or at least 1 month

Solution
it's a failing USB drive.

Thumbdrives are notorious for being both unreliable and failing randomly. Don't bother wasting any more brainpower on this one. good 32gb drives can be replaced for <$20

Hi, thanks for answer! I don't know if it does mater but, the USB is not USB 2 it is USB 3.0
