hey guys just as the title states, I plugged a stick into a USB slot (I think 2.0) on the side of my desktop (which has been running fine/no other problems I could think of) and it caused what I think was a power surge - and now will not turn on.

There is dust build up in this area, which I somehow have missed as it is in a tricky, unnoticeable area, however I am pretty good at keeping my fans, motherboard etc. of being dust free.

Before I concede to taking it in for a fix was wondering if you guys could give me a possible prognosis for this malfunction, let me know!

Cheers.

I don't think it is the USB that is the problem. USB 2.0 is a 0.5 A at 5 V device and the power draw is negligible.

When the computer is plugged into a 110 VAC outlet do you see any LEDs lit up inside the case? Try plugging it into a different outlet and check.

It is quite possible that the PSU failed and that the USB plugging-in was a co-incidence.
