Solution mcnumpty23 May 19, 2012 if it wont physically fit in then check the plastic insert part of the usb connection is still there--on the laptop and the mouse hub these have been known to come off and leave the bare pins then if you push a usb device in and the pins touch it shorts out--which isnt good

mcnumpty23 Polypheme Jul 15, 2011 15,518 0 66,960 May 19, 2012 #7 if its on the actual laptop then its probably expensive as its usually soldered to the motherboard though when its happened to me in the past i have still been able to use any other usb ports as long as i made sure none of the exposed pins were touching each other in the faulty port took out the battery--disconnected the charger and used a wooden toothpick to seperate the pins--then taped over the faulty port so i wouldnt accidently plug a usb device in there you can add usb ports with a pcmcia card if its the only port you have--or express port card if the laptop doesnt have pcmcia these would be much cheaper than trying to do anything to the usb ports on the motherboard and just slot in hope that helps Upvote 0 Downvote
